Popular Casino Card Games in Canada

Blackjack

A simple, yet classic game and fan favourite in our Lion’s Den of table games, Blackjack is a game of 21. In this player versus dealer game, the goal is to get your card value to reach 21, or as close to it as possible without going over (bust). After two cards are dealt, to get to 21 you can take a hit (a card), stand (stay with what you’ve got), split or even surrender. Don’t worry, once you’re seated at the table it’s all very clear and you can also take a gander at our handy How to play Blackjack guide for reference!

Baccarat

Say it with us…Baa-kr-aa. Don’t worry, it’s much easier to play! Baccarat is a game based on the outcome of two hands - the Player’s and the Banker’s. Now, don’t get confused, these two hands are labelled Player and Banker but they could just have easily been named Hand #1 and Hand #2. So, now that you know you’re not technically the ‘Player’, what will you bet? On a Player win, a Banker win, or a tie?

Hold’em Poker

Texas and Omaha. Not just two States, but also two variations of Hold’em Poker. Why? Because both poker games use a set of community (shared) cards that players can pull from to create a poker hand. In Texas Hold’em, players create a poker hand using any combination of their two hole cards and the five community cards, while in Omaha, players are restricted to using only two of their four hole cards and three community cards.

Caribbean Stud Poker

This is a five card stud configured for fast play as a casino table game. And as such, it’s player versus dealer. Take a seat and ante up to get in the game! Once that’s over with, five cards are dealt face down to all involved, including the dealer. Second betting round occurs after the dealer reveals one of his five cards. Choice time. If you’re in, and you think your hand can beat the dealer’s, double up that ante (2x). If not, fold and await the next round!

Three Card Poker

Ante up folks, this is another popular casino table game. Rendition of poker, and you guessed it, with three card hands. If the dealer has a hand of Jack-high or worse, your wager is returned. Queen-high or better for the dealer and it’s a 1:1 if you can beat their hand. And finally, if the dealer’s hand just straight up wins, you lose.

Video Poker Games

Take your standard five card poker game and drop it into a video machine. Voila, you’ve got yourself video poker. Play against the machine and simply tap to hold onto your cards and release others to create a hand. The goal here is not to beat the dealer, but to create a winning hand that ranks high enough for a payday! It is played at your own pace and is quite a lovely option for poker newbies, or those who just want to relax and play solo for awhile.

Pai Gow Poker

Oh this is a fun one. Players get 7 cards each and need to create two hands with them, a two card hand (known as the Second Highest Hand/Low Hand) and a five card hand (commonly referred to as the High/Back Hand). The goal is to simply arrange cards so that both hands will rank higher than the Banker’s (dealer). But note, your High Hand (5 card) must rank higher than your Low Hand (two card).

Andar Bahar

If this game of chance is new to you, that’s because it’s new to a lot of us even though it’s all the rage in India. This popular game really comes down to its translation, inside outside. And that describes how you’re betting. Bets are placed based on a prediction of which box, Andar or Bahar (inside or outside) the Joker will be dealt to first.

Hi-Low

Simple can often be the best, especially with card games as it removes any trepidation towards joining a new table. So if you can count, you’ve got this one sorted already. After you’ve ante’d up, a requirement to play in most table games, the dealer will deal one card. Then it’s guess time - will the next card be higher, lower, or equal in value? And yes, that’s it!

Casino War

If you stuck to Crazy 8s and missed this one, there’s still time to enjoy it - and now with betting! Casino War features simple rules. It’s dealer versus player and with each card flip, you’re betting on who draws a higher card. If they match? Game on - it’s WAR! Double up that wager and get set for another determining round.

Red Dog

One deck of cards, so many possibilities. Red Dog is a fun game of chance! It starts with two cards dealt and a simple bet on whether the next card - the third one out - will fall between them. As you can gander, sometimes it’s an easy guess if you’re seeing 2’s and face cards, and sometimes it can be a tad more of a gamble. Hence, fun!

Table games FAQ

What card games are played at a casino?

While casinos vary with the games they offer, these iconic casino card games are usually on the roster of any online or brick & mortar venue: blackjack games, baccarat and poker. The latter is usually broken up into a dedicated poker room for games like Texas Holdem and Omaha, as well as video poker and table games like Caribbean Stud and Three Card Poker. And we’re sorry to report that while Euchre may be one of the most popular home card games, you’re not going to find it in a casino.

Which casino card games give you the best odds?

Favourites are often favourites for a reason, and offering the best odds usually comes into play here! Blackjack offers fabulous odds in terms of casino table games, featuring a house edge that hovers around 1% but can dip to half of that once a player picks up some basic strategy. So if you’re looking for a solid game, it’s blackjack. Bonus, casinos like ours here at LeoVegas offer a whirlwind of choices for blackjack due to its sheer popularity, from multi table action to live casino plays like One Blackjack Live.

Are casino card games available for free?

You’ve just nailed one of the best features of playing casino table games online - yes to the freebies! Our LeoVegas table games are a roaring good time even if no money is involved. Jump onto a table, learn the betting rounds, pick up the lingo and get a feel for the game. And while our Live Casino games can’t technically offer virtual play, because well, they’re live…you can still jump in as an observer and learn simply by watching.

What casino card game is the easiest to play?

You want the absolute easiest? It’s going to be a table game like Casino War. One of chance that requires little more than simply catching a good card at the right time. But, the easiest and most compelling game award goes to blackjack. A simple game of 21, the rules are both basic yet offer enough strategy and intrigue to keep you engaged and entertained for a long session!

What is the best card game to play at the casino?

You’re asking Lions who simply adore all card games! But, if we have to narrow down, we’ll pin the tail on blackjack. It’s simple enough for beginners to pick up quickly, and yet entices card game aficionados with its strategy, card counting possibilities, and swings.

What is the best casino card game to play for beginners?

We’re going with Blackjack - final answer. But, allow us a moment to justify why.

At its core, it’s an easy and inviting table game to pick up. The goal is simple - get your card values to 21 without going over. See? Nothing to it, plus in live games you’ll always have a friendly dealer helping you along or online prompts so you know all your choices for each betting round.

So sure, there’s a few extra pieces of this puzzle to pick up, but that’s where it will engage and an intriguing game to entertain even a beginner. And being an all time favourite card game, LeoVegas offers variety galore for this beginner’s favourite.
