Goals could flow in heavyweight contest
The strength of both sides is most certainly in attack and the goals look likely to flow at the Etihad.
Liverpool have seen the net bulge 38 times in their last 12 matches, but it hasn’t all been one-way traffic for the Reds.
Arne Slot’s men have conceded 14 times in their last nine games and there have been 24 strikes in the Reds’ seven away games.
City have found their attacking groove in a recent 3-1 Premier League success against Bournemouth and the Citizens were again amongst the goals when beating Dortmund 4-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
City have hit the net 19 times in their last six home games and three of their last four Etihad contests have gone over 3.5 goals. That looks a solid first-leg of a bet builder.
Expect action at both ends
Liverpool have kept only four clean sheets in 17 all-competition matches (including the Community Shield) this season and the Reds’ leaky defence has conceded 11 times in seven away games.
Andy Robertson’s return at left-back has helped to bring some more solidity to Liverpool’s back line, but it’s difficult to see how both teams won’t get on the scoresheet at the Etihad.
Both teams have scored in all of City’s last three matches and the Citizens defence allowed Championship side Swansea to find the next in an FA Cup tie in Wales last month.
However, Erling Haaland has scored 27 goals in 17 games for club and county this season and the City forward is almost impossible to stop, so take both teams to score as the second leg of a bet builder.
Sparks could fly with Szoboszlai
Complete a 17-2 same-game parlay by punting Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai to be shown a card.
The all-action midfielder has been the Reds’ standout performer this season, but the Hungary international has been booked in three of his last nine starts.
Those yellow cards have come against Chelsea, Everton and Aston Villa, all games in which Arne Slot’s men have been asked to get through a fair amount of defensive work, and that looks likely to be the case again at the Etihad.
