Juventus v AC Milan - 8:00pm 12th June

Football fans in Italy have waited a number of months for football to return since the suspension on 9th March and the time has finally arrived. Serie A begins again in just over a week’s time on the 20th June, but first the Coppa Italia takes centre stage. Two giants of Italian football clash with things finely poised in Serie A.

What Happened In The First Leg?

Juventus and AC Milan already played out their first leg way back in February at the San Siro. On that occasion, the match was filled with drama. It was Milan that took the lead in the 61st minute, as Ante Rebic volleyed home to the delight of the home crowd. Their cheers would soon turn to anger though, as French defender Theo Hernandez was sent off in the 71st minute for a second bookable offence.

Though you’d expect a red card to a key player to change the game, Milan weren’t really put under too much pressure. That was until the first minute of added time, as mercurial talent Cristiano Ronaldo tried a scissor kick that was blocked by Davide Calabria. Unfortunately for AC, even though the defender wasn’t looking at the ball, VAR decided that it was a handball offence. Ronaldo, of course, fired the spot kick home and ended the first leg as a 1-1 stalemate.

Head To Head

Last five results:

AC Milan 1-1 Juventus (Coppa Italia)

Juventus 1-0 AC Milan (Serie A)

Juventus 2-1 AC Milan (Serie A)

Juventus 1-0 AC Milan (Super Cup)

AC Milan 0-2 Juventus (Serie A)

Juventus have unsurprisingly got the better of their rivals on a consistent basis over the last couple of years, just like they have dominated Italian football in general. You actually have to go back to October 2016 for the last time Milan got the better of Juve, meaning the Turin side have gone 10 games without defeat in this fixture.

Team News

The big news is that AC Milan’s main man Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be missing for the game, as he recovers from a calf injury. The 38-year-old is still the best player at the club and not having him lead the line will be a huge blow, especially when they’re against the best team in Italy. Milan are also without Theo Hernandez and Samu Castillejo, who are both suspended for the game.

Hosts Juventus have much less to worry about from an injury point of view. In a shock to absolutely no-one, Cristiano Ronaldo has kept himself in great shape over the break and is fit to play, while Welshman Aaron Ramsey could also play a part although it would likely be from the bench. Gonzalo Higuain however may miss out, as he has a thigh injury.

Juventus v AC Milan Odds

Let’s take a look at the LeoVegas sportsbook for some sports betting odds for the big game.

Full Time Result

Juventus going into an important home game as big odds-on favourites isn’t really a surprise to anyone, but this time around they will have to deal without their vociferous home support at the Allianz Stadium. The ‘Old Lady’ have a very good recent record against a Milan side that have really struggled over the last couple of years. The ‘Rossoneri’ have had problems on and off the pitch, with mismanagement leading to a once great dynasty becoming a shell of themselves.

It is key to remember that in betting terms, the Full Time Result market only accounts for the 90 minutes. So, if you think that the game’s going straight to penalties (it was decided that extra time would be scrapped for this game), then a Draw would be the bet that you place.

In our opinion, although it’s hard to judge two sides after over three months off, Juventus should be too strong for Milan in the 90 minutes.

Both Teams To Score

In the last 10 head to head meetings between the sides, the Both Teams To Score market has been split down the middle. On five occasions both have scored, while in the other five Milan failed to score. If both teams don’t score in this game, the likelihood is that it would be AC again who fail to find the back of the net, as it would be a huge surprise for Juve to lose to nil in their own back yard.

It has to be said as well that Milan’s chances of scoring are reduced hugely by the lack of Zlatan, as he’s always their main goal threat. Ante Rebic scored in the first leg and will likely have to do so again for Milan to get on the scoresheet. It’ll be a tough ask though.

Goalscorer

First GoalOdds
Cristiano Ronaldo3/1
Paulo Dybala5/1
Ante Rebic9/1

If you enjoy betting on which individual players might find the back of the net in a game, then the Goalscorer market could be the one for you. Of course, the favourite to score is Cristiano Ronaldo as with any game he’s involved in, as he’s 3/1 to score first and 9/10 to beat the keeper at any time. He’s scored 25 goals in 32 games in all competitions this season, and as an elite player he’s likely to be ahead of everyone else in terms of fitness too.

Other good options to find the net are Paulo Dybala and Ante Rebic. Dybala has had an interesting career, coming through as the golden boy at Juve after joining from Palermo until the signing of Ronaldo took the shine off him a little. The Argentine has scored 13 times throughout the campaign, and will always get himself into good positions. He’s 5/1 to score first and 31/20 anytime. Ante Rebic is Milan’s best hope, with first goalscorer odds of 9/1 and 3/1 anytime.
