Tropicool 2 is a tropical holiday-themed slot with a bit of a twist, in that the beach, palm trees and tiki bar backdrop are set on the edge of a cold ocean, complete with icebergs. No, it doesn’t make sense to us either, but game providers ELK Studios decided to go with it and added some fairly eccentric characters in the form of Tony Toucan, Fiona Flamingo and Elmo the Sloth to match the game’s somewhat quirky vibe.

The online slot features free drops, giant symbols and a Cool Reel feature, along with Locked Wilds that last for three spins and a Row Swap, which switches all the symbols that land on a particular row and replaces them with another one. The six-by-six grid results in up to 46,656 paylines, with a maximum win of 2,500x your bet.

Tropicool 2 has a few special features that players need to familiarise themselves with before playing.

Tropicool 2 features a Cool Reel, which sits above the main reels and drops down when a match of three or more symbols is made, filling the leftover spaces on the main grid. It works on an avalanche mechanic, refilling with new symbols to create more wins until no new win can be created.

The symbols that drop in include regular Wilds, Locked Wilds, Mystery Symbols and Row Swaps. Basically, every symbol aims to help players increase their win, and this continues until the wins end and the regular grid comes back into play.

An Elmo Symbol can drop from the Cool Reel and can land in 1x1 size but then grow to 1x2 if a space opens up, which makes the symbol active. When active, Elmo scares away bird symbols, replacing them with Wilds or Locked Wilds and triggering Elmo Redrops. Locked Wilds or other bonus symbols ‘stick’ during redrops, while other symbols disappear.

Landing three or more bonus symbols on the main grid awards up to 15 free drops. This adds two more symbols to the Cool Reel that are active throughout the bonus round: Extra Drops, awarding up to three free drops when activated, and multipliers, which increase the wins in that round by up to +3. Again, Locked Wilds stay in place between drops.

ELK released the Tropicool 2 slot in February of 2023 as a follow up to the previous Tropicool game. Its colourful, quirky, slightly silly vibe offers a specific appeal, but those who try it will find the game features are a little different from many on the market.
