Premier League Betting Preview - GW 21

30th December 2019

It seems rather fitting that after the last gameweek of 2019 the one thing everyone is talking about is once again VAR. The majority of fans, players, managers and pundits all seem to believe that the Video Assistant Referee system needs an overhaul or even scrapped but that’s enough about that, as we’re going to see in the New Year exactly the way we want to: with some fantastic Premier League football.

Remember that here at LeoVegas, we have Premier League betting tips & previews for every match for the rest of the season. We have online betting odds for all of the latest Premier League matches, plus we also have football betting tips for matches from around the world, plus a brilliant selection of other sports too.

Now, here are some of our selected tips & odds for the Premier League Gameweek 21.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Chelsea - 12:30pm 1st January

Brighton needed to put in a performance on Saturday after a run without a win in the Premier League, and they got it with an easy win at home to South Coast rivals Bournemouth. Aaron Mooy, in particular, looked fantastic in the middle of the park and the Seagulls dominated the game. Chelsea have literally gone LWLW in their last four Premier League games, with those wins coming away to Spurs and Arsenal. As this is the case, it is so difficult to judge what their result is going to be. You would expect Chelsea to score, though Brighton also have a lot of attacking threat.

BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE - ODDS: 4/7

Burnley vs Aston Villa - 12:30pm 1st January

Two sides in claret and blue clash to bring in the New Year, but things are going much better for the Lancashire side on the whole. They are in 13th despite two defeats in a row, while their opponents Aston Villa have fallen into the drop zone after a woeful 3-0 defeat at 10 man Watford. Burnley have had under 2.5 goals in three of their last four home games in the Premier League and this may well be another tight affair.

UNDER 2.5 GOALS - ODDS: 49/50

Watford vs Wolverhampton Wanderers - 3:00pm 1st January

Nigel Pearson has helped turn Watford around and they are now within touching distance of safety thanks to some good results. Wolves have had a bizarre week, beating Man City 3-2 after fighting from 2-0 down and then losing to Liverpool in bizarre circumstances with debatable VAR decisions. Mexican striker Raul Jimenez is almost assured to start this game after coming off the bench at Anfield, and his scoring record has been spectacular recently.

RAUL JIMENEZ TO SCORE - ODDS: 8/5

Newcastle United vs Leicester City - 3:00pm 1st January

The Magpies have had a poor Christmas period, losing to both Man United and Everton. The Everton game in particular it became evident that there is only one plan when Allan Saint-Maximin is not involved: lump it to Andy Carroll. A much changed Leicester side were still good enough to beat West Ham, and the good thing for Brendan Rodgers is that his top players are now all rested. The Foxes have only lost four matches all season, to Liverpool twice, Man City and Man United. It is doubtful that they’ll fear going to St James’ Park.

LEICESTER CITY TO WIN - ODDS: 3/5

Southampton vs Tottenham Hotspur - 3:00pm 1st January

Southampton have incredibly climbed up to 15th in the table, four points clear of the drop zone thanks to a run of two wins and a draw over Christmas. Cracks are starting to form for Jose Mourinho’s side after a great start, one winning one of their last three matches. Danny Ings has been incredible for the Saints recently, scoring 8 goals in his last 8 starts. Spurs have looked incredibly shaky at the back recently too, as evidenced by Serge Aurier’s comedy own goal against Norwich.

DANNY INGS TO SCORE - ODDS: 7/5

Manchester City vs Everton - 5:30pm 1st January

This is an interesting contest, as Carlo Ancelotti has won both his matches in charge of Everton. We still can’t be 100% sure how things are going to turn out for him, but this trip to the Etihad on New Years Day will be a great indication. Man City know that all they can do at this point is to keep winning games and hope for the best. Kevin De Bruyne has been in unbelievable form so far this season and has claimed 12 Premier League assists, 4 more than his closest challenger.

KEVIN DE BRUYNE TO GIVE AN ASSIST - ODDS: 6/5

West Ham United vs Bournemouth - 5:30pm 1st January

Once again we have to speak about a managerial change at a Premier League club. This time it’s West Ham, and it’s a bizarre return to the club for David Moyes. He first came to the club in November 2017 and had a 29% win rate for his 31 games. At the end of the season though, West Ham’s owners thought they wanted a more attractive name and refused to give the Scotsman a new contract. He’s back now though, and up against a Bournemouth side that are really struggling at the moment. New manager bounce, anyone?

WEST HAM TO WIN - ODDS:23/25

Norwich City vs Crystal Palace - 5:30pm 1st January

Things are looking particularly bleak for Norwich at the moment, six points from safety with a much worse goal difference than their rivals. The Canaries can feel hard done by with a marginal VAR call against Spurs, where they were much the better side. Palace have been quietly going about their business and are flying high in 9th. The average number of goals in meetings between Norwich and Palace is 2.0, and having seen a lot of the Eagles so far this season they are not a side that scores or concedes many.

UNDER 2.5 GOALS - ODDS: 9/10

Arsenal vs Manchester United - 8:00pm 1st January

Mikel Arteta will be furious at how his side let a lead slip at home to Chelsea, while Ole Gunnar Solskjær is looking for a third win on the spin over Christmas. Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford are looking particularly dangerous for the Red Devils at the moment. Man United have done spectacularly well against the top sides so far this season, and are unbeaten against Liverpool, City, Spurs, Leicester, Chelsea and Arsenal this season, winning 4 of those games. Arsenal, on the other hand, have incredibly only won 1 of their last 12 Premier League games stretching back to the middle of October.

MAN UNITED TO WIN AT LEAST ONE HALF - ODDS: 4/6

Liverpool vs Sheffield United - 8:00pm 2nd January

These two sides have arguably been the two most impressive in the division all things considered. Sheffield United coming up from the Championship and playing expansive football while getting results, and Liverpool being so far clear at the top of the league. Having been upstaged by his teammate Sadio Mane against Wolves, Mo Salah will be desperate to get back on the scoresheet after going two matches without a goal, a rarity in his Liverpool career.

MOHAMED SALAH TO SCORE: 19/20
