Premier League Betting Preview - GW 16

6th December 2019

The Manchester derby is likely to attract the majority of the attention in the Premier League this weekend, but there are plenty of other talking points too. Everton sacked Marco Silva on Thursday evening after they lost the Merseyside derby, and they will go into their game against Chelsea with former Toffees striker Duncan Ferguson in temporary charge.

Now, here are some of our selected tips & odds for the Premier League Gameweek 16.

Everton vs Chelsea - 12:30pm 7th December

Marco Silva paid the price for poor results and now Everton have to look to the future. Almost £500m has been essentially wasted in the last few years and the club seem to have taken a few steps backwards to where they were beforehand. After dropping into the bottom three, things are reaching a critical level. Chelsea were boosted in a big way by the return of Tammy Abraham, who grabbed a goal and an assist in their victory over Aston Villa. Frank Lampard’s side unsurprisingly go in as favourites at Goodison Park and it will take a big performance for Everton to get anything from this game.

CHELSEA TO WIN - ODDS: EVENS

Tottenham Hotspur vs Burnley - 3:00pm 7th December

Spurs were brought down to earth with a bang at Old Trafford as they fell to a 2-1 defeat. The biggest success story with Mourinho’s Spurs has been Dele Alli, who has come into form in a spectacular fashion with three goals in his last two Premier League games. This is a fixture that he’ll be thinking he can grab a goal in. For Burnley, they have lost their last two games convincingly but Sean Dyche will not be getting too worried as of yet.

DELE ALLI TO SCORE ANYTIME - ODDS: 7/4

Bournemouth vs Liverpool - 3:00pm 7th December

Four defeats in a row is never a good sign when you’re a Premier League side, and Bournemouth had not struggled like this for quite a while. The fact that they couldn’t take home a point after playing against 10 man Crystal Palace must have set alarm bells off. This is certainly not a fixture they’d have wanted at this stage. Liverpool are still 8 points clear at the top of the league and have looked fantastic in recent weeks. There should be plenty of attacking threat on show, with Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino likely to come back in.

OVER 3.5 GOALS - ODDS: 13/10

Watford vs Crystal Palace - 3:00pm 7th December

News broke on Friday afternoon that Nigel Pearson became the heavy favourite to be the next manager of Watford, with a mixed reaction from the fans. What is evident is that the Hornets need to start picking up results quickly, as they are bottom of the league and 7 points adrift of safety. Palace are very much going the other way at the moment, with two wins in a row following on from their incredibly tough run of fixtures. Roy Hodgson will be expecting his side to claim the three points at Vicarage Road.

CRYSTAL PALACE TO WIN - ODDS: 13/10

Manchester City vs Manchester United - 5:30pm 7th December

Undoubtedly the biggest game of the weekend, the Manchester derby is always an important fixture in the Premier League calendar. In their last five matches in all competitions, the sides have the same record: 2 wins, 2 draws and a defeat each. In terms of head to head, Man CIty have had the better of things recently, winning 3-1 and 2-0 last season. It seems as if Man City are the side that need the points more here, as anything less than a win will see them lose even more ground in the title race.

BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE: YES - ODDS:41/50

Norwich City vs Sheffield United - 2:00pm 8th December

Norwich just can’t seem to get a run of results together, which is why they are marooned in the bottom three. However, after going eight matches without a goal, Teemu Pukki has now scored in his last two matches with a goal each against Arsenal and Southampton. With Sheffield United’s disappointing result on Thursday, the Finnish international may fancy his chances again.

TEEMU PUKKI TO SCORE ANYTIME - ODDS: 7/5

Aston Villa vs Leicester City - 2:00pm 8th December

Villa have been very hit and miss, with their performances probably suggesting they should be a little higher up the table than 16th. Jack Grealish has been the main standout, as well as England defender Tyrone Mings. Leicester on the other hand fully deserved to be in the position they’re in, as the closest challengers to Liverpool at the top of the league. Jamie Vardy has scored in seven straight Premier League games and he will fully expect to bag another at Villa Park.

LEICESTER CITY TO WIN - ODDS: 4/5

Newcastle United vs Southampton - 2:00pm 8th December

Newcastle United are really starting to come into form at this stage, winning three of their last five Premier League games and thus moving up to 11th in the table. Southampton have won two in a row, though both of those matches were at home. St James’ Park doesn’t seem to be the best place for the Saints either in recent years, losing 3-0 and 3-1 in the last two efforts. Steve Bruce will be hoping for a repeat of those clashes.

NEWCASTLE UNITED TO WIN - ODDS: 8/5

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Wolverhampton Wanderers - 4:00pm 8th December

The Brighton players really seem to have bought in to Graham Potters new style of football and are starting to achieve some results, while Wolves are sitting pretty in fifth position in the Premier League. Interestingly, Wolves score more goals away from home on average than Brighton do at home. Of course, Mexican striker Raul Jimenez remains Wolves’ main goal threat both from open play and the penalty spot.

RAUL JIMENEZ TO SCORE ANYTIME - ODDS: 39/20

West Ham United vs Arsenal - 8:00pm 9th December

Arsenal really are a shambles at the moment, with their managerial situation needed to be sorted sooner rather than later. Freddie Ljungberg has overseen his team struggling to a draw at Norwich and embarrassingly losing at home to Brighton. West Ham’s recent form has barely been any better, only winning one of their last five league games. This contest could go either way, but goals may be in great supply as neither side can defend.

OVER 3.5 GOALS: 11/10
