Premier League Betting Preview - GW 14

18th December 2020

It’s been yet another crazy week in the Premier League, as defending champions Liverpool took a three point lead at the top of the table thanks to a last minute winner against Spurs. Roberto Firmino is famed for his recent lack of goals at Anfield, but the Reds’ number 9 rose highest from a corner to head home and sink Jose Mourinho’s men. The Spurs manager was not happy though, telling his counterpart Jurgen Klopp that “the best team lost”. We’ll see this weekend how both sides will react to the result. As ever, we have all of the Premier League previews and the latest UK sports betting odds right here at LeoVegas.

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool - 12:30pm 19th December

As mentioned in the intro, Liverpool can be delighted with the midweek win that has put them in full control of the Premier League title race. A trip to Crystal Palace is certainly not an easy one on paper, as the East London side are traditionally difficult to play against. However, Liverpool have actually won the last six Premier League meetings with the Eagles by an aggregate scoreline of 15-5. It goes without saying that there is no room to slip up for the Reds, and we expect them to be on their game in this fixture.

Liverpool Score Both Halves: 11/10

Southampton vs Manchester City - 3:00pm 19th December

It’s 3rd against 9th, but not as we would have expected at the start of the season. It’s the Saints who are flying high, with seven wins from their opening 13 games. Man City, on the other hand, have struggled by their lofty standards and are already 8 points behind the league leaders. A draw at home to lowly West Brom summed up the season so far for them. Disjointed and lacking creativity, it’s a shock seeing a once-dominant side look so toothless. There is only one side going into this game full of confidence, and it’s not Pep’s men.

Saints Win 1 Half: 19/10

Everton vs Arsenal - 5:30pm 19th December

It’s been a great season so far for one of these sides, and a dreadful one for the other. Everton are flying, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin contributing both goals and assists. All eyes are on Arsenal here though, who are under immense pressure to pick up a result. It’s all turned into a nightmare for Mikel Arteta since winning the FA Cup and Community Shield, which is bizarre as things looked like they were going in the right direction. Everton to win seems like it provides value on current form.

Everton To Win: 13/10

Newcastle United vs Fulham - 8:00pm 19th December

Neither side are particularly good at the back, even though Newcastle seem to set up defensively from a tactical point of view. That approach certainly went well on Wednesday, losing 5-2 in comical fashion to Leeds. The last two goals, in particular, were shambolic, conceding twice in a row to a counter-attack from their own corner. So we expect the Magpies to concede, but with Callum Wilson up front they are usually good for a goal.

Both Teams To Score: 4/5

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Sheffield United - 12:00pm 20th December

Sheffield United have officially made the worst start to a season in English top-flight history and things don’t look like they’re going to improve any time soon. This is certainly a game that they’ll be targeting points from, and it’s quickly becoming a now or never situation for the Blades. Hosts Brighton are obviously favourites, but we expect this to be a low-scoring contest as neither side are prolific, it’s fair to say.

Under 1.5 Goals: 39/20

Tottenham Hotspur vs Leicester City - 2:15pm 20th December

Jose Mourinho was happy with his team’s performance at Anfield but they just didn’t get the result they needed. Missed chances from Bergwijn and Kane cost them in the end, but they’re still in a great position to mount a title challenge. The form of Son Heung-min has been a particular highlight this season, currently tied with Salah and Calvert-Lewin in the Premier League top scorers chart. He’ll certainly fancy his chances of scoring here too, but we’re going a bit safer with a Spurs to win prediction. Leicester have been good this season, but tend to be very erratic in their performances.

Tottenham To Win: 27/25

Manchester United vs Leeds United - 4:30pm 20th December

The last time these two sides met in the Premier League was way back in February 2004, also at Old Trafford. Paul Scholes opened the scoring for Man United, only for Alan Smith to reply for Leeds a few minutes later. They are two very different teams than they were back then, of course, but we would not be surprised if the result was the same. Man United have been much better away from home this season and Leeds’ front foot style could cause them problems. Alternatively, it could play into the Red Devils’ hands on the counter. A very interesting game awaits.

Draw: 33/10

West Bromwich Albion vs Aston Villa - 7:15pm 20th December

It’s been a strange week at the Hawthorns, as manager Slaven Bilic was sacked after what looked like a great result away at Man City. Sam Allardyce is his replacement and has a Midlands derby to deal with in his first game. The key thing he’ll be looking to do is tighten up at the back, in order to lead the Baggies away from the relegation zone. Villa will be disappointed to have failed to score against Burnley, and may struggle going forward once again in this one. We’re going for a low-scoring affair.

Under 2.5 Goals: 57/50

Burnley vs Wolverhampton Wanderers - 5:30pm 21st December

Even when Burnley are written off they still manage to get results. They are always supremely well organised and are always good for a clean sheet, as evidenced by their 0-0 draw at Villa Park. Wolves aren’t particularly high scorers either, so we think this could be yet another game that’s lacking goals, unfortunately.

Under 1.5 Goals

Chelsea vs West Ham - 8:00pm 21st December

It’s been a poor last few weeks for Chelsea, as they were on a great run of form before the visit to Goodison last weekend. Since then though, they’ve lost two in a row: 1-0 to Everton and 2-1 to Wolves. The latter will have been particularly painful, as they were counter-attacked in the last minute. Those results mean that West Ham are just one place and one point behind their West London opponents, and will fancy their chances of getting a result. However, as they need a result we’re backing Chelsea to perform.

Chelsea Score Both Halves:21/20
