The modern-day Cheltenham Festival can be traced all the way back to 1818, when a somewhat more modest event was staged on Cleeve Hill in Cheltenham, which overlooks the current racecourse. The one-day meeting featured just five races. The following year, the first ever Cheltenham Gold Cup race was held.
Over the years, the festival became a four-day event and arguably the most well-known and anticipated event in the British racing calendar. The fourth and final day of the Cheltenham Festival is also known as Gold Cup Day, so it’s easy to forget that there is more to Day 4 than just the Cup, with plenty of other races taking place throughout the day.

The County Hurdle Network is a Premier Handicap race for horses of five years or more. Before placing a wager on this race, keep in mind that eight of the last 12 winners were aged five or six, but only two of the last 12 winners were favourites. Keep in mind that nine of the last 12 winners carried 11st 1lb or less.

Cheltenham Day 4 tips: Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle
The Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle is a novice hurdle race over three miles for horses of five years or more. Bear in mind that 10 of the last 12 winners were aged six or seven, but only one of those 12 was a favourite. Six of the last 12 winners won on their previous run before the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle, and 11 of those 12 winners had at least one win under their belt that season.

Cheltenham Day 4 tips: Foxhunter Chase
The ungraded Foxhunter Chase takes place over three miles and is open to horses of five years or more. Stats worth considering include the fact that 11 of the last 12 winners were aged eight or older, and four of them were favourites or joint favourites. You might also want to consider that all 12 had at least one previous run that season and nine of them had at least one previous win that season.

Cheltenham Day 4 tips: Mares’ Chase
The grade two Mares Chase takes place over two miles and is open to mares of five years or more. This is a relatively new race, only having been run three times before, so you may want to focus more on the current form of the runners than a stats overview. However, you should be aware that all three previous winners had between three and five previous wins in chase events. So looking for those in Cheltenham, betting odds should be top of your list.

Cheltenham Day 4 tips: Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle
This ungraded, two-mile Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle is for horses of four years or more. In this one, 10 of the last 12 winners were aged five or six. Interestingly, none of the last 12 winners were favourites, and only three were in the top three in the betting. 10 out of the 12 winners had at least three previous runs that season, with nine of them having had at least one win that season.
