Atletico Madrid v Barcelona Betting Tips

Written 28th November 2019

The LeoVegas European Football Preview doesn’t only focus on the conventional big leagues such as the Italian Serie A and German Bundesliga. In fact, this week only the Spanish La Liga makes an appearance, with the Swiss Super League and the Danish Superliga both making their first appearances of the season. From the latter, we have the New Firm Derby as Copenhagen welcome Brondby. In Switzerland, Basel host Young Boys in a top of the table clash. Finally, Barcelona travel to Atletico Madrid looking to maintain their grasp onto top position. All of this will be accompanied by some of the biggest and most relevant online betting odds.

Atletico Madrid v Barcelona - 8:00pm, 1st December

On Sunday evening, Atletico Madrid have a great chance of moving level with Barcelona on points in La Liga, if not quite leapfrogging them entirely. The latter is possible, but would require Atletico to win by seven goals, which we don’t see happening. What we do see though is an entertaining contest between two exciting teams, although Atletico have been a little more reserved than their opponents so far this season. This approach has seen them lose only one game in the Spanish top flight, although seven draws from their other 13 matches sees them a little disappointed at this stage, although it is exactly the same as they had at this point last season. The fact that when these two met in the corresponding fixture in late November of 2018, it finished 1-1, could well be an indicator that Atletico possess the ability to restrict a free-scoring Barcelona side. They will also have an idea of how to nullify Antoine Griezmann, as he makes his first return to Wanda Metroplitano since leaving in the summer.

Atletico Madrid to Win - ODDS: 7/4

Barcelona will be keeping a close eye on Real Madrid’s match at Alaves on Saturday, and Sevilla’s game with Leganes on Sunday morning, as if they drop points then Barcelona will be able to move out into a more comfortable lead with a win in this fixture. That will be easier said than done, as the reigning champions have already lost three matches this season, compared to the three that they lost in total last campaign. At times, they have been unfortunate with injuries, but with the strength in depth they have, the defeats to Bilbao, Granada, and Levante on the road can only be counted as upsets. Atletico are a much more potent threat than either of those, and with Jordi Alba and Nelson Semedo still injured and Sergio Busquets suspended, Barcelona may be susceptible to their attacking threat.

Antoine Griezmann to Score - ODDS: 13/5
