The main goal of blackjack remains unchanged, no matter what live casino table or variation you play - get a hand value as close to 21 as possible without going over, while beating the dealer's hand. That’s it in a nutshell.
In every round of blackjack, you have your choice of the following moves - or ‘actions’:
Hit - Ask for another card to get closer to 21.
Stand - Happy with your hand? Standing in blackjack means you’re sticking with what you’ve got, taking no more cards in an attempt to improve your hand value.
Double Down - Some would say to double down on 11 - always - but it’s your call. Here, confident players can double a bet and receive exactly one more card.
Split - If you’re looking down at a matching pair, you can ‘split’ them into two separate hands. Note, this requires an additional equal-valued bet, since you’re now playing two hands in this round.
Insurance - A buffer for your bet if a hand starts out weak. Anytime the dealer shows an Ace in their opening hand, you can bow out and take insurance. This means you’re surrendering your card, folding out of the hand, and are taking back half your bet.
